MEET AUTHOR JOAN BRANSFIELD GRAHAM

"A good poem surprises your senses, shakes you awake, stirs your emotions, and startles your imagination.
Each poem is an act of discovery. Poetry helps us widen our vision and our hearts." --JBG

Award-winning author/poet Joan Bransfield Graham has been widely published in anthologies (including National Geographic, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and 20 collections by Lee Bennett Hopkins), textbooks, and magazines. Her books for children SPLISH SPLASH and FLICKER FLASH—concrete poems about water and light—inspire students to write their own poetry. Both books were School Library Journal Best Books of the Year and NCTE Notable Children's Books in the Language Arts, among many other honors. She also has a poetry/classical music CD— The Song We Chose to Sing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31HmK-UMw

Her book THE POEM THAT WILL NOT END: Fun with Poetic Forms and Voices is the opposite of Writer’s Block. Ryan O’ Brian can’t stop writing poetry (http://youtu.be/hCHXuZec6Us) and does so in unique ways. THE POEM THAT WILL NOT END is a NCTE Notable Poetry Book, winner of the Myra Cohn Livingston Award for Poetry, and recipient of a Eureka! Silver Award for Excellence in Nonfiction.

Former U.S. Children's Poet Laureate Kenn Nesbitt said “masterful . . . the book belongs in every classroom and school library, and in the hands of every young reader who wants to know more about poetry." She is listed on the Poetry Foundation website: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/joan-graham

An honors graduate of Rowan University with a degree in Elementary Education, Ms. Graham studied art in Majorca (USF), writing at UWM, and poetry at UCLA. A former teacher, Joan loves encouraging students to think creatively and has given hundreds of presentations at schools, libraries, and conferences worldwide, including the Casablanca American School in Morocco. An avid photographer and traveler, who has visited about 50 countries, she uses images from around the globe in her talks. Joan grew up on a barrier island off the southern coast of New Jersey and has lived in the north, south, east, & west--Kentucky, Wisconsin, Virginia, and now California.
